Effect of Phosphorus Content on Hydrogen Embrittlement for High Strength Steel Treated with Electroless Ni–P Plating

نویسندگان

چکیده

Hydrogen embrittlement of SK85 high-strength steel sheets was evaluated through a three-point bending test. The effects electroless Ni–P plating and Ni electroplating on hydrogen were examined with respect to the permeability plated films. On morrow plating, indicates high degree embrittlement, irrespective phosphorus content in film. However, is further suppressed than that which can be attributed excellent diffusing ability electroplating. These results demonstrate film an important factor for embrittlement. present surface visualized by employing microprint technique, corresponding reveal dependent crystal structure. Furthermore, pits become route emission.

Hydrogen Embrittlement of High Strength Steel Electroplated with Zinc-cobalt Alloys

Slow strain rate tests were performed on quenched and tempered AISI 4340 steel to measure the extent of hydrogen embrittlement caused by electroplating with zinc-cobalt alloys. The effects of bath composition and pH were studied and compared with results for electrodeposited cadmium and zinc-10%nickel. It was found that Zinc-1%cobalt alloy coatings caused serious hydrogen embrittlement (EI 0.63...

High Pressure Hydrogen Permeance of Porous Stainless Steel Coated with a Thin Palladium Film via Electroless Plating

The high-pressure (100-2500 kPa) hydrogen permeance of two membranes, each composed of a thin palladium film (~22 μm) deposited on the oxidized surface of a porous stainless steel tubular substrate (0.2 μm grade support) has been determined over the 623 – 723 K temperature range. The hydrogen flux was proportional to the H2 partial pressure in the retentate raised to an exponent of ~0.55 for on...

Characteristics of Hydrogen Embrittlement, Stress Corrosion Cracking and Tempered Martensite Embrittlement in High-strength Steels

Characteristics of tempered martensite embrittlement (TME), hydrogen embrittlement (HE), and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in high-strength steels are reviewed. Often, it is important to determine unambiguously by which of these mechanisms failure occurred, in order to suggest the right actions to prevent failure recurrence. To this aim, samples made of high-strength AISI 4340 alloy steel wer...

Electroless Nickel Plating with Hypophosphite

In the previous chapter, the components of electroless nickel plating baths were discussed from the viewpoint of the function each performs in the bath, with little attention paid to their effect on the plating process. The metal and the electron source (the reducing agent) are consumed in the electroless plating reaction and so their concentrations in the bath are continuously decreasing. Ther...
